AIM
To enable the medical student to deal effectively with patients presenting with sexual and relationship problems in General Practice and other specialities.
OBJECTIVES
1 To understand the aetiology, classification and differential diagnosis of sexual dysfunction.
2 To understand the effects of illness, disability and medical treatments on sexual functioning
3 To understand the effect of psychosocial issues on sexual dysfunction
4 To understand the interactions between sexual dysfunction and relationship problems .
5 To increase awareness of the cultural and religious context within which psychosexual and relationship problems occur
6 To be acquainted with the main therapeutic approaches to relationship problems.
7 To be aware of the physical and psychological treatment of sexual dysfunction
8 To be able to integrate objectives 1-7 in relation to a case example
9 To be competent and comfortable in taking a sexual and relationship history from individuals and couples
10. To be able to give information and advice about sexual and relationship problems and know about specialist services to whom referral may be made.
The teaching consists of one day of theoretical input followed by one seminar
group.
